State Assemblywoman Trying To Stop The Search For a Cure — To Homosexuality

Usually government officials who try to halt the search for a cure are reviled by people around these parts — a la Bush's war against stem cell research. But an attempt by Southern California State Assemblywoman Bonnie Lowenthal to stop research on another front will probably receive wide kudos from San Franciscans.

Lowenthal introduced a bill last Friday to delete language in state law that calls for state public health officials to find a cure to homosexuality, as reported by the Long Beach Press-Telegram. The statute has been on the books since 1950, and was brought to the assemblywoman's attention by Equality California Director Geoff Kors.
