Two Critically Burned in Mission District Fire

Amid the winds howling around the Bay Area, San Francisco firefighters struggled to put out an apartment blaze early this morning, which left two with critical burns.

The fire started at about 4:30 a.m. on the top floor of a three-story apartment building near Mission and 24th streets. The complex houses 35 people, but only two were taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to San Francisco police.

“Windy conditions made it a very hard fire to fight,” Fire Chief Joanne Hayes-White told reporters at the scene this morning.
