Police found two sisters in their Tenderloin apartment dead from stab wounds in a possible murder-suicide on Wednesday evening, officials said Thursday.
On Wednesday around 5:30 p.m., police found 51-year-old Julie Nhan 56-year-old Phung Nhan with stab wounds in their shared apartment on Tenderloin Family Housing at 201 Turk St. A family member hadn’t heard from them in a while and called for a welfare check, according to police spokesperson Officer Joseph Tomlinson.
Paramedics pronounced both women dead at the scene. It is unclear when the family member last heard from the sisters.
Supervisor Jane Kim, who represents the Tenderloin, said her staff has met with the family once they received the alert and is setting up a fundraiser for funeral expenses.
“I am deeply saddened by the news of the possible homicide/suicide case that took place,” Kim said in a statement. “In this sensitive time, we hope the family can grieve with privacy.”
