Amigo the Devil, King Dude, and Twin Temple at Slim’s, October 31, 2019

This past Halloween, a trio of dark rock acts visited Slim’s in San Francisco, and put on a spectacular sold-out performance. The humorous dark folk project, Amigo the Devil, performed a one-man show wielding a guitar, banjo, and his voice, and engaged the audience in sing-alongs. Dressed for Halloween, Amigo sported an “Ursula from The Little Mermaid” look, complete with dramatic makeup.

TJ Cowgill’s folk project King Dude lent a set of darkly spiritual music, accompanied by a percussionist adding dashes of deep electronic beats and tambourines to Cowgill’s guitars, voice, and keys.

Twin Temple was the most elaborate of the performances and opened the night. Fronted by the duo of Alexandra James and Zachary James, along with a full backing band, Twin Temple performed their unique brand of “Satanic Doo-Wop”, and engaged with the audience, having them chant along and dabbing their foreheads with smudges of presumably fake blood.
