English indie pop band Blossoms performed at The Independent in San Francisco, CA this past November 13th, 2019. Touring in support of their third full-length record planned for a January 2020 release, ‘Foolish Loving Spaces’, the Stockport bred quintet led the audience through a sizable amount of their catalog, including hits like ‘Charlemagne’ and ‘Your Girlfriend’. Vocalist Tom Ogden, bassist Charlie Salt, guitarist Josh Dewhurst, drummer Joe Donovan, and keyboardist Myles Kellock all maintained a high level of energy and enthusiasm, despite the show being somewhat under attended.
Supporting Blossoms were Ireland’s Inhaler. Formed in 2016, the band took a slightly more post-punk approach with their rocking, and may have amped the crowd up even more than Blossoms. The most obvious fact you’ll hear about the band are that the front man for the group, Elijah Hewsom, is the son of U2 vocalist Bono. You can definitely hear a resemblance in his voice, but his vocal style is very much his own. Inhaler also featured Josh Jenkinson on guitar, Rob Keating on bass and Ryan McMahon on drums, and they kept the audience on their toes for their somewhat brief set.
