By Jennifer Lee

Carla Geneve offered up a stripped down set with songs from her self titled EP Carla Geneve. She also introduced a couple of unrecorded songs with lyrics inspired by coming of age in Western Australia. Without her band behind her, this acoustic set brought out the tender vulnerability of her lyrics, such as “did you have a good time? Did you pretend that usually you don’t have to pretend?” Her slow dancing melodies and stripped down performance were a soothing act that distinguished itself from San Cisco’s bright and upbeat energy. Carla is 19 years old and last night was stop number two on the American tour. Looking forward, a fuller sound with her band can only give even more meaning and vivacity to her lyrics.
