Not letting the fear of COVID-19 stop them, well over 10,000 members of the KISS Army packed the Oakland Arena on Friday night for what could very well have been the final Bay Area performance of KISS. Not wanting to disappoint their fans, founding members Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons pulled out all the stops, putting on a show that every generation of KISS fans in attendance would remember. There was pyro, confetti, and a setlist full of songs that had the entire arena singing along, including “Shout It Out Loud,” “Black Diamond,” “Cold Gin,” and of course, “Rock and Roll All Nite.” It may not have been KISS in their prime, but it was KISS still doing what they have done for close to 50 years, which is giving their all to please their fans. This show was no exception.Supporting KISS was none other than former Van Halen frontman David Lee Roth, who put on a highly entertaining set of his own. He was just as much of a showman as he always has been, and brought the crowd into the arena early, performing both Van Halen and solo material, including “Unchained,” “Beautiful Girls,” and “Just Like Paradise.” Together both he and KISS made everyone in the venue escape from the craziness of currently going on the outside world, and just enjoy themselves.
