Often mentioned in the same breath as their stylistic peers Cocteau Twins and My Bloody Valentine, the English shoegaze band Slowdive is an act held dear by fans of fuzzy and dreamy rock music. Touring in support of their recent self-titled album, the band made a stop at Oakland’s Fox Theater this past Saturday, October 28th.
Dreamy vocals, fuzzy guitar, heavy drumming, projected visuals, and floods of colored light lent the performance an ethereal quality, as vocalist/guitarists Rachel Goswell and Neil Halstead — backed by drummer Simon Scott, and bassist Nick Chaplin — gave the audience a tour of the band’s catalog. Los Angeles rock band Cherry Glazerr opened the night.
