Thousands gathered in Golden Gate Park on Wednesday June 19th for Surrealistic Summer Solstice Jam 3 celebrating the music of 1969, 50 years later. Musical director Dan “Lebo” Lebowitz brought together an all-star lineup including musicians from the era such as Country Joe McDonald, who performed his anthem made famous at Woodstock, Santana’s Michael Shrieve, Pete Sears of Jefferson Starship and Moonalice, Norman Greenbaum, Lester and Dylan Chambers, Scoot Thunes of Frank Zappa, Greg Errico of Sly and the Family Stone, Dave Getz of Big Brother and the Holding Company, Peter Albin, and contemporary artists from Moonalice, Con Brio, The California Honeydrops, ALO, Midnight North, Strangefolk, Electric Beethoven, Brothers Comatose, Magic in the Other, Katdelic, and more. The 4 hour music journey, with more than 50 musicians, culminated with a light show projected onto the Conservatory of Flowers and a fully packed stage for an encore of The Beatles’ “With a Little Help from My Friends”.
