Described by New York Magazine as “The God of speculative fiction”, prolific science fiction author William Gibson popularized the Cyberpunk sub-genre with groundbreaking novels such as Neuromancer and Cryptonomicon. Gibson’s newest work, ‘Agency’, is a sequel to the novel ‘Peripheral’, set in the San Francisco bay area, with plot elements touching on tech startups, artificial intelligence, and time manipulation. San Francisco’s Booksmith proudly presented a discussion and signing with Gibson at Public works in San Francisco this past Thursday, January 23rd.
In discussion with Gibson was Mother Jones editor-in-chief Clara Jefferey, with hosting by Evan Karp. Public Works offered drink specials for the event, with cocktails named after Gibson novels such as “Mona Lisa Overdrive” and “The Peripheral”. A Q&A session with Gibson and the audience followed his reading, and a signing of his new book capped off the night.
